About Us

Ventnor Baptist Church is an active, exciting and unique group of Christians who meet regularly together to worship God, hear from his word and spend time with each other in fellowship in the heart of Ventnor, Isle of Wight.

Inspired by Isaiah 61, we believe that our work is primarily outward-looking seeking the transformation of Ventnor in every respect of life. Our calling is to touch the lives of those who are in need, the hungry, the hurt, the lost and lonely, with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We want all who meet with Jesus to grow up in his likeness.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe that God exists in three persons. God the Father, who is the creator of all things; Jesus Christ who is the incarnate Son who died for our sins and rose again and will one day return to reign as King of Kings; and in the Holy Spirit who lives in every believer equipping them to live a life that pleases God.
  • New life in Christ comes through repentance and personal faith in Christ.
  • Baptism by immersion as a result of personal faith and an act of obedience is the “Biblical pattern” for witnessing to our faith publically.
  • We have an expectation that the Holy Spirit's presence will be manifested in both fruit and gift in the individual and in the life of the whole fellowship.
  • We believe that it is the responsibility of every believer to bear witness to what God has done in their lives.
  • The Church meeting is central to the direction of the Church. It is there that we seek to determine the mind of Christ with regard to how we function as his Church. To be in Partnership with Ventnor Baptist Church is to commit to being part of that process.
  • However, no church can exist in isolation and therefore we also value being part of the wider Baptist family, The Baptist Union of Great Britain and Southern Counties Baptist Association. This brings support, nurture and encouragement as we seek to fulfil God's commission to take the good news to all nations and peoples. This is expressed in our commitment to Home Mission, B.M.S., and involvement in the activities of the Southern Counties Baptist Association. We also join with the other Baptist churches on the Island for joint events for training, worship and evangelism.
  • As part of the wider body of Christ on the Island we are also committed to working with churches of other denominations across the Island for the sake of the Gospel.

How we worship

We worship every Sunday between 10:30am and 12:00pm and welcome all including children.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the 3rd Sunday of the month and all who have faith in Jesus Christ are invited to share this celebration with us.

After morning worship we serve tea and coffee and invite visitors to stay and enjoy fellowship with us.

Mission Statement

“To see Ventnor transformed by the love of God expressed in word and action.”

Our Vision

To fulfil our Mission Statement, we seek to be involved in the life of the community by making our buildings available for general use and where appropriate, encouraging individuals to be active in community affairs.

We do that by involvement in the Ventnor Isle of Wight Food Bank and Street Pastors. Both are which are joint ventures with other Christians in the area.

When circumstances permit we have Craft and Bric-a-brac sales on a Saturday afternoon.

We also have fun nights, open to all. The Curry-oke nights are always well attended and enjoyed by those that come.

We rent an allotment from the Town Council, which was begun and is tended, planted and harvested by a small team from the partnership, and is proving to be quite successful.

We recognise that there is still much to do to touch our community and as God provides us with both the financial and the human resources necessary we are certain that our mission will continue to grow.

Meet The Team

Charles

Church Pastor

My wife and I moved to Ventnor in 2014. We have 2 boys who enjoy the island and are in Primary School. Before becoming part of the church in Ventnor, I was supporting the ministry in Chandigarh, India along with my Father who was the Pastor of the church.

I am passionate to see the Lord moving in our local community here in Ventnor. Over the years I've had quite a few favourite bible scriptures that inspired me. Currently I am exploring and understanding the implications of 1 Peter 3:15 "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."

Andy

Church Secretary and Treasurer

We moved to the Island and Ventnor in 1988 with a successful business, a young family and found Ventnor Baptist Church the first Sunday we were here. We had our ups and downs financially over the years but God has kept us from falling further than we could manage. We had two more children on the island making four in total - 3 boys and 1 daughter. Sadly I lost Lyn, the love of my life, in May of 2021 after a short battle with cancer. I have 5 grandchildren with another on the way. Currently living in Lake with my daughter, granddaughter, youngest son and his partner.

In the past at Ventnor Baptist Church I have been a Youth Club leader, Sunday School teacher, a Fabric Steward and a Deacon.
I am currently Ventnor Baptist Church's Secretary and tempoary Treasurer ably aided by Chandra and Anne.

I look forward to seeing what God has planned for us - because it is never what you thought it would be!

Chandra

Church Safe Guarding Officer

My name is Chandra. I have been a Christian for over 50 years, since moving to this Country in 1970. I have been to several Churches over the years but after settling in Ventnor more that 30 years ago I went to another Church near my workplace. Eventually with God clearly prompting me, I moved to Ventnor Baptist Church more than 10 years ago. I have been a Deacon for the past 8 years. When our previous minister retired I was given the role of Safe Guarding. I take this role very seriously. I have worked with Children and At-Risk individuals all my professional life and therefore the Church as a whole gave me that responsibility. I ensure that all policies are kept up to date and we are following the guidelines of the Baptist Union recommendations.
I also ensure training for key figures within the Church and all those attending of their responsibilities to the people attending the Church.
